Sergio Garcia Enters the Open Championship

After earning a runner-up position in the BMW International Open, Spain’s Sergio Garcia has qualified in the Open Championship, which will be held at the Royal St George Golf Club in the UK in July. Garcia, who had slipped out of Official World Golf Rankings or OWGR’s top 50 golfer, is playing his contention into the third major of the season.

He had almost lost his opportunity to contend in the Open Championship due to his current form. However, the tables have turned as the Spaniard finished at the second place in the recently held BMW International tournament in Munich, Germany.   The seasoned golfer finished a tie with fellow Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal which eventually resulted to a play-off. Garcia lost the chance of victory by missing the birdie putt on the fifth play-off. Despite this fact, Garcia has managed to earn 222,220 euros which pushed him up the OWGR at the 51st spot according to writing a dissertation.  As the Top 50 gain an automatic qualification into the Open Championship, Garcia is ready to bring back the power that made him victorious in the HSBC Champions in 2008.   Garcia told to write a term paper that he was very satisfied with the play-off. He stated he is willing to move forward while he learned something from his experience. Making it to the Open was clearly one of Garcia’s goals and he wanted to be the champion if he could. But he admitted that Pablo is better.
